Instagram Lite is the official Instagram app you've been waiting for, if you were looking for a miniaturized version of this ubiquitous social network. Weighing in at a fraction of the space that its predecessor takes up on your memory, you can now use many of the features you've come to love without it using up all your memory -- particularly if you're on an outdated, or mid-range smartphone with limited internet access.

Using Instagram Lite is likely to remind you of the early days of Instagram, way back when its interface was cleaner and focused exclusively on your photos. What that means to users is that you won't be getting any DMs here, no live-streaming, and the 'Explore' feature has been heavily streamlined in this Lite version in order to weed out any functions that take up too much space.

Regardless, the name of the game has always been uploading images, and in Instagram Lite, that's where your focus is. You can still upload photos to your TL and Stories feed, as well as enjoy your friends' posts just like always. There's also an option to upload texts and write on your stories photos, but there are no filters for your images. In any case, Instagram Lite is perfect for using Instagram in its purest form, and you can always just upload pictures you edited via your smartphone's in-house filters and effects, or check out other photo editing apps to do so.

Instagram Lite is a fantastic alternative to the full version of Instagram. It has way fewer features, but at the same time you won't have to deal with all the clutter if you're not a fan of the myriad of novelties Instagram regularly rolls out. Stripping it back down to essentials, Instagram Lite is here to do what Instagram has always done best: share your images and present you with your friends' content and stories. Taking up little little over 573KB, that's hard to beat in comparison to the whopping 32MB that the full version occupies on your phone.

The best Lite apps to save space and RAM on your Android

Lots of the go-to apps we use on our smartphones are starting to get a bit out of hand in terms of their resource consumption. In many cases even midrange devices can't handle the ballooning suck on memory. Hence the proliferation of Lite apps (both official and unofficial) these days, all of them set up to offer the same main features as their original counterparts but massively reducing RAM use and the space taken up on the device. Here are some of the most popular and efficient ones available (plus a tool to create your own lite apps as a bonus).

Instagram now offers new nametag feature for adding contacts

Although it was announced weeks ago, it wasn't until just the other day that Instagram added the so-called nametags feature to its repertoire. This is the new way for users on the social network follow other users, and it's easier than manually entering their username. To simplify things, Instagram now offers a sort of customizable card that you can scan with your smartphone's camera.

How to turn on push notifications in Instagram Lite

The creation of a new Lite app is always great news for anyone who doesn't have a high-end device or for people who don't want huge apps taking up space on their device. Instagram Lite arrived a few months ago to offer us an experience closer to the original Instagram and not the current version that's jam-packed with features. That said, along the way, we'd lost useful features like notifications. Fortunately, the latest version of Instagram Lite, along with the web version, now include them.
